Deteriorated Cast Iron Pipe

  • Deteriorates from the inside and outside
  • Soil conditions in North Texas accelerate corrosion
  • Interior buildup reduces flow over time
  • Leads to clogs, leaks, and failures

Modern PVC Pipe

  • Will not rust or corrode
  • Maintains full, smooth internal diameter
  • Eliminates cast iron deterioration issues
  • Still affected by soil movement and conditions

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions homeowners have about replacing cast iron sewer pipes.

Do I really need full cast iron replacement, or can it be repaired?
Old cast iron does not fail in one isolated spot. Once deterioration begins, the entire system is aging and will continue to fail. Repairing one section means the remaining cast iron will still need replacement later, costing homeowners twice.
What about trenchless lining — does it actually work?
Trenchless methods such as pipe bursting and CIPP (lining) do not correct issues like improper slope, bellies, misalignment, separated joints or structural deterioration. Residential homes also have lots of fittings, turns, and short runs that make consistent trenchless results unreliable. For that reason, we do not recommend trenchless sewer repair as a dependable long-term solution.
What’s the difference between rerouting and replacing in place?
There are two ways to properly replace cast iron under a slab: install the new pipe where the old one is now, or reroute by changing the pipe path to reduce tunneling and cost. Both remove the cast iron completely and install new PVC. Rerouting isn’t always possible — it must be honestly evaluated in person by someone who has your best interest at heart.
How much does full cast iron replacement cost — and what does that include?
Most full residential cast iron replacement projects we quote fall between $17,000–$27,000, but cost depends on the home’s layout and excavation required. Square footage and bathroom count do not determine pricing. The only way to know the exact price is through an in-person evaluation. Full replacement includes excavation, PVC pipe installation, warranty, permits, required city inspection, backfill, cleanup, and hauling off leftover dirt and debris.
How disruptive is the process, and how long does it take?
Most projects are completed in 3–5 business days, weather permitting. Homeowners can typically remain in the home during the project. There will be periods when water use is temporarily unavailable, particularly during plumbing and inspection stages.
